Professional cycling is exciting. It is elegant and combative, but sometimes also painful and discouraging. There is speed, slacking, climbing and shoving; there is camaraderie, but also cheating and bluffing, fighting and hollering, jubilation and devastation. All these facets of cycling are reflected both emotionally and informatively in this outstanding volume’s exciting portraits of 50 cycling heroes. The fact that the cover design can’t quite hold a candle to what’s on the inside is a small drawback – one which should be mentioned, but which shouldn’t stand in the way of an award.
