Chairman Lutz Dietzold

Lutz Dietzold (*1966) has been managing director of the German Design Council in Frankfurt am Main since 2002. He studied art history, classical archaeology and German language and literature in Frankfurt. After working as a freelancer in the area of design communication for national and international clients, he was appointed as the managing director of the Deutscher Werkbund Hessen (German Association of Craftsmen in the federal state of Hesse) as well as the managing director of Design Zentrum Hessen (Hesse Design Centre), where he was responsible for the strategic reorientation of design promotion. In 2011 he was appointed deputy chairman of the Stiftung Deutsches Design Museum (German Design Museum Foundation) and member of the advisory council of the Mia-Seeger-Stiftung (Mia Seeger Foundation). Mr. Dietzold publishes articles on a regular basis and gives national and international lectures on a variety of topics relating to design. He is also a member of numerous juries as well as of the project advisory board of the German Federal Ecodesign Award of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.

Andreas Haug

Founder Phoenix Design GmbH & Co. KG Andreas Haug founded in 1987 the design studio Phoenix Design in Stuttgart, together with Tom Schönherr. After completing his design studies at the “Academy of the Fine Arts” in Stuttgart, Andreas Haug was co-founder and co-owner of frogdesign, from 1984 to 1987 as Design Consultant and Vice President. Phoenix Design, founded in the late 1980’s, has developed to become one of the top addresses worldwide for product and interaction design. Andreas Haug and Tom Schönherr have already received the Lucky Strike Designer Award as well as the German Design Award Personality for their overall achievements. For many years now, Phoenix Design has maintained the top rank at the iF ranking creative “design office” category and is regarded as the leading independent design studio for product and interface design worldwide. Today, Phoenix Design has 60 employees working at their locations in Stuttgart, Munich and Shanghai. Phoenix Design has already received more than 700 international design awards. Brand companies like Axor, Duravit, Gira, Hansgrohe, Hewi, Huawei, Interstuhl, Lamy, LG, Loewe, Samsung, Trumpf, Viessmann, Vorwerk and Zeiss are among the long-standing clients.

Submitting contest entries

Original products, models, presentation charts or digital media can be entered for the contest. A brochure can be enclosed with the original product, in which the product is described in depth. For construction reasons, entries cannot be mounted on the wall or ceiling. Please supply batteries or bulbs where necessary. When submitting presentation charts, please send firm DIN A2 cardboards (max. 4 pieces), in order to ensure a good presentation in front of the jury.

All entries and packaging must be clearly marked with the product ID allocated during the registration procedure. Entrants bear the costs and all risks for delivery and collection of the registered items. Objects are to be delivered in transport-safe and re-usable packaging. The German Design Council will not accept any liability for possible damage incurred during delivery or collection, and recommends that entrants take out the relevant insurance. Please note the varying addresses for delivery/collection and observe the delivery deadlines.

  • Can I save partially completed entries in the database?

    Yes, you can save the data at any stage.
  • When is my registration of the proposed products contractually binding?

    When you have filled in all the relevant product data in the database 'My Design Council' (MDC), please click on the "Submit Product" button. At that point, the agreement is binding, and the product is deemed to have been formally submitted. You cannot make any changes beyond this point.
  • How many products can I register?

    In principle, there is no limit to the number of products that can be submitted. Please note that there is a registration fee for each submission and a winner fee for each product that is selected for an award.

  • When and where will the award ceremony take place?

    The award ceremony of the Bicycle Brand Contest will take place in autumn 2018. Detailed information about place and date will follow soon.
