The German Design Council, the expert for brand and design in Germany, bestows the Bicycle Brand Award. Commissioned by the highest authority to represent new developments in the German design industry. Established on the initiative of the German Bundestag (the constitutional and legislative body at the federal level of the German parliament) as a foundation in 1953, it supports the industry in all matters consistently aimed at generating an added brand value through design. As a result, the German Design Council is one of the world’s leading competence centres for communication and brand management in the field of design. The exclusive network of foundation members includes, in addition to designers and design associations, in particular the owners and brand directors of numerous renowned companies.
This award is unique
The times when the bicycle industry was all about the classic two-wheeler are over: comprehensive brand experience chains have been available to consumers long since – and the bicycle industry is clearly differentiating itself based on brand and design.
This is reason enough to dedicate it its very own award. The Bicycle Brand Contest is an acknowledgement by the German Design Council of excellent product and communication design in the industry and offers companies a unique international platform to present and position themselves effectively in the media and the public.
The award is aimed at companies in the bicycle industry and their partners in the supply, as well as the design and communications industry. With unrestricted use of the winner label, tailored media strategies for the winners and effective media and marketing communications campaigns, it attracts attention to the winning company and to the whole industry.
The 2017 Bicycle Brand Contest ceremony was held on 12 September 2017 in Frankfurt am Main.

The label for Winners and Best of Best can be used without restriction.
Winners receive a one-page article in the publication, Best of Best a two-page article. Brand of the Year, Team of the Year, Agency of the Year, Innovation of the Year and Ad of the Year each receive a four-page article in the publication.
Specimen copy of the publication
All winners receive one specimen copy of the publication and special terms for orders of additional copies.
The online exhibition will be presenting the rewarded projects with picture and text.
All winners receive a certificate in a high-quality aluminium picture frame, personalised with the details of the product, company and designer to display the awarded project at representative locations, e.g. company buildings.
